We launched our Ukrainian Programme «Наші Таланти - Наше Майбутнє», which has been approved by the Ministry of Education and Sciences of Ukraine, in March 2015. We currently have three local groups:
-
In Kiev, which is based in rooms provided by our partner, the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. We started this group with nine pupils, who were then between 9 and 15 years old. These pupils fled the conflict zones in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions with their families. Since then, the group has been expanded to 13 pupils in a second admission round.
-
In Slovyansk (Donetsk region), based at the Pedagogical Lyceum. We launched this group in June 2015 with 10 pupils and 5 pedagogues from the Pedagogical Lyceum. That group has been expanded by another 15 pupils from several schools in Slovyansk in the autumn of 2015.
- In Svyatogorsk (Donetsk region): This is our newest group and consists of 11 pupils at the “Izumrudniy Gorod” (Emerald Town) national orphanage centre. We are planning to hold the learning group sessions remotely over a new fast internet connection.
Eleven pedagogues have been leading our learning groups: six in Kiev and five in Slovyansk. The subjects in which learning groups have been held so far are:
a) Mathematics
b) Physics
c) Chemistry
d) Biology
e) English
f) German
g) French
h) IT / Programming
i) Robotics
j) “Environmental responsibilities”
The learning groups in IT / Programming and Robotics have been held by our partner “Kid's Science Studios MASU” (see the page Our Partners ).
Excursions: Besides organising a summer camp by the Black Sea for our pupils in Kiev and Slovyansk, we have also taken our pupils on educational excursions near Kiev (see Excursions and summer camp).
The social activities of our pupils currently take place within two innovative projects that we have created for this purpose:
- "Children for energy-efficient homes" in Kiev. The primary aim of the project is to help people who do not have access to the Internet get information on how to reduce their utiltity bills, especially through energy efficiency improvements. More details can be found at www.miidim.org
- "Clean Slovyansk", whose primary aim it is to map the distribution of litter in the town of Slovyansk and thus encourage the residents to reduce litter. We collaborate with the town’s municipal administration in this project.
